Challenge Shield

Stafford BC won the Challenge Shield despite a strong challenge from the Stone BC team.
This friendly has been played for more years than anyone can remember with a unique format. With home and away legs consisting of a series of doubles games. After each match, six scores cards are picked at random to decide the winners of the Challenge Shield.

This year the contest was very much “a game of two halves” compared to Stone’s 96
Stafford BC had a comfortable win on their own green. With wins in 6 of the 8 games and 131 points to Stone’s 65 points with the random draw gave Stafford a 73 - 33 lead.

However, the tables were turned when Stafford visited Stone. With Stone winning 9 & drawing 1 of the 12 games. Stone scored 145 points to Stafford’s 90 points with the random draw giving Stone 63 points to Stafford’s 45.

In the end a relatively close result with an overall win for Stafford with 118 points to Stone’s 96. The Challenge Shield was presented by Stone’s President, Derek, to the victorious Stafford team.
